Coasts and Estuaries Research Group

The Coasts and Estuaries Research Group (CERG) is based at the University of Newcastle, Australia.
We study the physical drivers, dynamic processes and changes that occur within coastal and estuarine environments in Australia and beyond. The CERG is a multidisciplinary collective with research spanning from beach dynamics to tidal processes in estuaries and influences on frog populations, tsunami hazards, long-term evolution and migration of coastlines, and modern sediment dynamics of coastal seabeds. We are passionate about advancing scientific and community knowledge & stewardship of coastal and estuarine environments, with the intent to enable and facilitate sustainable coastal planning and management into the future.

The Coasts and Estuaries Research Group acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, work, and do research - the many Indigenous nations that have been custodians of Country for tens of thousands of years. We extend our acknowledgement to the Awabakal people of the land on which the University of Newcastle Callaghan campus resides. We pay our respects to all Indigenous Elders past, present, and future.
